1. About this policy

This policy explains the cookies we use on our website and platform (“Service”), and why. It sits alongside our Privacy Notice. A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser.

2. The short version

We use a small number of first-party cookies. We do not use any advertising, social-media, or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not track you across other websites. The cookies that run the Service are strictly necessary and are set without asking. The referral-discount cookie is set only when you arrive via a referral link, so your discount is applied at checkout; it does no tracking, and you can delete it at any time in your browser. The in-site support chat (Crisp) sets a functional cookie so your conversation stays connected across pages and return visits — it is used only to run the chat, never for tracking. On our UK site, our analytics provider (Origami) sets a cookie only if you accept analytics in our cookie notice (see section 3).

3. The cookies we use

CookiePurposeTypeExpires
aion_sessionKeeps you signed in to the form-filler after you log in with Google.Strictly necessary12 hours
aion_oauth_stateProtects the “Sign in with Google” step against cross-site request forgery (CSRF).Strictly necessary10 minutes
aion_pendingRemembers your verified Google identity between signing in and choosing a plan, so you don’t have to sign in twice.Strictly necessary30 minutes
aion_refRecords which firm referred you when you arrive via a referral link, so your referral discount is applied at checkout and your referrer is credited. Set automatically when you follow a referral link; never set otherwise.Legitimate interests (referral attribution)90 days
aion_ref_dashKeeps you signed in to the referrer dashboard after you open the sign-in link we email you.Strictly necessary7 days
crisp-client/*Support chat (Crisp): keeps your chat session connected, so your conversation continues across pages and return visits. Set by the chat widget when it loads.Functional (support chat)6 months
_ov_vidAnalytics (Origami, UK site): a random ID that recognises this browser on return visits and, if you sign in, links it to a pseudonymous account ID so we can tell existing customers from new visitors. Set only if you accept analytics.Analytics (with your consent)13 months

The aion_* cookies are first-party (set by aionautomation.org), sent only over HTTPS in production, marked HttpOnly so they cannot be read by scripts, and SameSite=Lax. The support-chat cookie is set on our domain by the Crisp widget script and is readable by that widget — it has to be, to reconnect your conversation.

Analytics (UK site). Our analytics provider, Origami, receives each page visit (the page path, your IP address and browser type) through our own domain, and uses the IP address to work out which company network the visit came from. It never identifies you personally; we use it to see which organisations are interested in Aion. Unless you accept analytics, no analytics cookie is set and your visits are not linked together. Your choice is kept in your browser’s local storage.

4. How the referral cookie works

When you open a referral link, we set the aion_ref cookie (first-party, 90 days) so your discount is applied at checkout and the firm that referred you is credited. It contains only the referral code — it never tracks your activity, on this site or any other, and it is never set unless you arrive via a referral link. You can delete it at any time in your browser settings; the only effect is that the discount can’t be attributed.

So that you don’t lose the discount just by browsing on before answering, your pending referral code is kept in your browser’s session storage (first-party, deleted when you answer or close the browser) and the banner keeps asking on later pages — including checkout — until you accept or decline. If you have accepted the referral cookie before, following a new referral link applies it without asking again. We also remember, in your browser’s local storage, that you have seen our cookie notice and your referral-cookie choice, so we don’t re-ask on every visit.

5. Managing cookies

You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings, and set your browser to alert you when a cookie is being set. Note that blocking the strictly-necessary cookies will stop you from signing in and using the Service, and blocking the referral cookie will mean a referral discount cannot be applied to your subscription.

Helpful guides: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge.

6. Changes and contact

We may update this policy; material changes will be posted here. Questions about cookies or your data can be sent to contact@immigration.aionautomation.org.
